“We live in a culture that is very infamous for prejudice and over time we can see that there are not many improvements. The courts, the unfair rules for African Americans, the oppressive justice system, the police officers’ mistreatment of people of color, the little injustice that is hidden: this is what I display on the left side of my drawing. I show an African American woman on the right side, with a future created by her. What I mean is it doesn’t matter where you come from but where you go. You have the opportunity to create a life of your own. The few elements I use in my painting have a sense that goes from the culture of where you come from, to the choices you make to form your own future path.”
